Well we are in the second week of the new year and my chosen topic for this week is THE POWER OF INCREMENTAL CHANGE.  Many of us are working on becoming better in several life areas by intentionally choosing small but new habits and putting them into our daily calendar —which is the recipe for success in any endeavor.

Sometimes we discount the power of the small behaviors which reminds me of a story Dr. Henry Cloud told about his college experience with ants. When he was struggling through his doctoral dissertation someone gave him an ant farm. Strange gift but as he got curious about it he began to notice their behavior.  The ants were hauling grains of sand from one area to the other in the terrarium.

While what they were doing did not really make sense to him or seem to be making a difference, it became clear when he returned after a few days that great progress was being made- he could see tunnels and structures taking shape. It wasn’t much longer when the entire city had been built for the ants. Each ant by simply moving a solitary grain of sand, one at a time, built something truly impressive.

This is exactly the way we change-by showing up for ourselves in each area that we desire to shift, making intentional small choices preferably calendared with accountability.  It’s the only way to ensure your year is one worthy of representing your one precious life.  Keep moving that one grain of sand!

Design a great week!
