Growth is hard!  Beau and I can both attest to this fact with experiences from this week.

Last weekend, we decided to fly the dogs with us to Gulf Shores. Beau obviously was not loving the flight time as you can see- he actually tried to get back in the car when he saw the airplane!  It was a rough time for him, but as the flight progressed, he got more relaxed even though he would NEVER have chosen this avenue of travel.  I could definitely relate to him as I felt the same way in a recent coaching session with my Content Coach.

This woman seems to be worlds ahead of me in intelligence and experience. As our last session progressed, I began to feel more and more uncomfortable with my present knowledge and abilities in what she was teaching.  My inner dialogue was going something like this, “Missy, get me out of here, what are you doing? I am supposed to be in the remedial class and obviously this is a 400-level class you threw me into!”.   I so wanted to check out.

But the real solution, and what I did, was sit with the discomfort and commit to the work, not bailing but digging in. I checked the story I was telling myself.  Isn’t this the way it works? We want to get ourselves out of uncomfortable situations but those are the exact ones that enable us to get where we want to go!

We have to stay in the discomfort zone to not only let it teach us the faulty thinking, but also to practice and build resilience. This is really our ability to dysregulate- when our emotions are all over the place and get back to emotional regulation. This more often than not comes with our truth and checking the story we are telling ourselves.  When we jump ship, we abort the growth!  Can you relate?
